In Matthew 17, Jesus climbs to a mountain top with his closest friends to transition in to their full and true nature. For everyone else, they have to tone it down and hide behind a mask of masculinity. But amongst chosen family Jesus can take the mask off. When he does, the scripture says “his face shown like the sun.”
Two weeks ago I was at a board meeting for the Reconciling Ministries Network with some of the most beautiful people. As another chosen family, when we gather together we can be fully ourselves—fully known and fully loved.
It is this feeling of acceptance and strength of community that motivates us to do what we do. While we work to equip churches, educate, and work for intersectional justice, the ultimate result of what we do is provide spaces where LGBT+ can shine in their full created nature. I can sit at this table in my favorite dress, in a place where I am celebrated and be my full self.
